Allergy
A state of hypersensitivity induced by exposure to a particular substance (pollen, foods etc.) characterized by harmful immunologic reactions (difficult respiriation, skin rashes, etc.) on subsequent exposures.
Anesthesiology
The medical study of how to eliminate pain and sensation in people undergoing surgery and other medical procedures.
Audiology
The branch of medicine that tests your ability to hear sounds.
Bacterial
Bacteria are group of micro-organisms that are a single cell approximately 1 micron in transverse diameter. Some bacteria cause disease in man, requiring treatment with an antibiotic.
Cardiology
The medical study of the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the heart and blood vessels.
Chiropractic
Chiropractic is concerned with human health and disease processes with special attention given toward the physiological and biochemical aspects of health.
Critical Care
Health care provided to a critically ill patient during a medical emergency or crisis.
Dermatology
A branch of science dealing with the skin, its structure, functions, and diseases
Family Practice
A medical specialty concerned with the provision of continuing, comprehensive primary health care for the entire family.
Gastroenterology
A branch of medicine concerned with the structure, functions, diseases, and pathology of the stomach and intestines .
Gynecology
A branch of medicine dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the female reproductive organs.
Immunology
The branch of biomedicine concerned with the structure and function of the immune system, innate and acquired immunity, the bodily distinction of self from nonself, and laboratory techniques involving the interaction of antigens with specific antibodies.
Internal Medicine
The specialty of the general medicine of the internal organs.
Nephrology
The science which treats the kidneys and their structure and functions.
Neurology
The branch of science which treats the nervous system.
Obstetrics
A branch of medicine dealing with the care of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the period during which they recover from childbirth.
Oncology
The study of diseases that cause cancer.
Ophthalmology
The area of medicine dealing with the eye.
Optometry
The professional practice of primary eye and vision care that includes the measurement of visual refractive power and the correction of visual defects with lenses or glasses.
Orthopedics
The branch of surgery broadly concerned with the skeletal system.
Otolaryngology
A branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders and diseases of the ears, nose and throat.
Pathology
The branch of medicine concerned with disease, especially its structure and its functional effects on the body.
Pediatrics
A branch of medicine concerned with the health of infants, children and adolescents, their growth and development, and their opportunity to achieve full potential as adults.
Physical Therapy
A physical therapist is a specialist trained using exercise and physical activities to condition muscles and improve level of activity. Physical therapy is helpful for those with a physical debilitating illness.
Podiatry
The medical study of the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot.
Prosthetics
The science of making and adjusting artificial parts of the human body.
Psychiatry
A branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental illness.
Psychology
The systematic or scientific knowledge of the powers and functions of the human mind.
Pulmonology
A branch of medicine dealing with the health of the lungs.
Radiology
The study of x-rays in the diagnosis of a disease.
Respiratory Therapy
Exercises and treatments that help patients recover lung function, such as after surgery.
Rheumatology
A branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis.
Sleep Disorders
Disturbances of usual sleep patterns or behaviors.
Sports Medicine
The field of medicine concerned with physical fitness and the diagnosis and treatment of injuries sustained in sports activities.
Virology
The branch of medical science that studies viruses and viral diseases. Because they use the machinery of their host cells, viruses are difficult to kill. The most effective medical approaches to viral diseases, thus far, are vaccination to prevent infection, and drugs that treat the symptoms of viral infections. Patients often ask for antibiotics, which are useless against viruses.
