Pediatric Sleep Disorders Linked to a Spectrum of Health & Behavior Issues.
Research into pediatric sleep disorders is shedding light on the clinical and behavioral manifestations of disrupted sleep in children. Some of these manifestations are typical across all age groups, particularly in those with sleep-disordered breathing, and include snoring, restless sleep, morning headaches, difficulty waking and diminished concentration.

Protecting Your Little Ones
One of the many duties parents face is protecting their children from exposure to harmful substances such as drugs, alcohol, or tobacco. One element which unfortunately does not appear on many “black lists” is sugar. This supposedly benign substance is the cause of much grief and expense in regards to children’s (and adult’s) teeth. Most people acknowledge that excess consumption of soda or candy is detrimental to anyone’s dentition, but there are many other sources which contribute to tooth decay.

Tips for Getting Your Children to Wear Bicycle Helmets
Have your children wear helmets as soon as they start to ride tricycles and if they are a passenger on the back of an adult’s bike. If they learn to wear helmets wherever they ride tricycles and bikes, it becomes a habit for a lifetime.

Kids Need Chiropractic Too
Many people have the misconception that infants, toddlers, and children are not good candidates for chiropractic healthcare. This is not true. The rapid growth and high level of activity of children make them a group that may benefit the most from chiropractic treatment. It is common for children of any age to suffer injuries that are disregarded as normal childhood accidents or not recognized by parents. Such injuries, if left untreated, may lead to future problems throughout the developmental years and into adulthood. Chiropractic treatment helps restore normal motion and function to injured areas. It helps in the overall healing of injuries children are exposed to. Chiropractic has further been shown to benefit many common childhood ailments such as colic, and ear infections.

Teens Need Their Sleep
As summer vacation comes to an end, parents and guardians should be adjusting the sleeping habits of their children, especially adolescents. The National Sleep Foundation and Central Peninsula General Hospital’s Sleep Center offer the following tips that should be maintained throughout the school year.

Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Across your Lifespan
Eating well and being physically active are key to your child's well-being. Eating too much and exercising too little can lead to overweight and related health problems that can follow children into their adult years. You can take an active role in helping your child-and your whole family-learn healthy eating and physical activity habits.
Safe kids are no accident!
Summer is here! The kids are out of school, the moose are calving, and life is good. And with the summer come new activities for families and kids: biking, boating, fishing, hiking, swimming, skateboarding, etc. With all this summer fun in mind, the Kenai Peninsula SAFE KID Coalition challenges you to a summer riddle.
